Antique George Shiebler Sterling Silver Folding Comb - Art Nouveau

£125.00

This antique comb is made from sterling silver and it’s by notable designer George Shiebler (1846-1920). It looks at first glance like a pocket knife, but you fold it out and a comb is revealed. The outer case is embossed with stylised acanthus leaves both on the front and back, with a small gap in the design where initials could be engraved. It’s stamped as sterling, with Shiebler’s maker’s mark of a winged letter S, and a design number.

Measures 8.4cm in length closed and 1.7cm wide across the middle of the case. Weighs 28 grams..

Condition: Good antique condition. One tooth of the comb has been lost and a couple of others are a little wonky, but otherwise it’s in good order. There are no dinks or damage to the outer case. The hinge is a little loose so when opened fully the comb wobbles and doesn’t hold in place, but when closed it stays where it should and doesn’t fall open.
