Antique George Shiebler Sterling Silver Folding Comb - Art Nouveau

£125.00
sold out

This antique comb is made from sterling silver and it’s by notable designer George Shiebler (1846-1920). It looks at first glance like a pocket knife, but you fold it out and a comb is revealed. The outer case is embossed with stylised acanthus leaves both on the front and back, with a small gap in the design where initials could be engraved. It’s stamped as sterling, with Shiebler’s maker’s mark of a winged letter S, and a design number.

Measures 8.4cm in length closed and 1.7cm wide across the middle of the case. Weighs 28 grams..

Condition: Good antique condition. One tooth of the comb has been lost and a couple of others are a little wonky, but otherwise it’s in good order. There are no dinks or damage to the outer case. The hinge is a little loose so when opened fully the comb wobbles and doesn’t hold in place, but when closed it stays where it should and doesn’t fall open. The condition is reflected in the price.
