Victorian Fine Yellow Gold Back and Front Engraved Day and Night Locket
This beautiful Victorian locket features gold panels on the back and front, with beautifully hand engraved decoration on both sides. These panels test as being over 9ct gold, I would say they’re closer to 12ct. The sides and hinge are made from gilt base metal for strength and durability, though they look to the naked eye exactly the same as the front and back. There’s a lovely faceted bale at the top and inside, one side has the original removable frame, glass cover slip and a previous owner’s picture of an older lady. The other side, has the frame, but the glass is missing and there’s a piece of material instead of a photo (possibly a piece of the lady in the picture’s dress).
It measures 4.0cm long with the bale (just the main body of the locket is 3.1cm) and 2.5cm wide. Weighs 10.2 grams.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. I think it’s actually in the best condition for a Victorian locket that I’ve ever had! There’s barely any signs of wear to the gold, the sides, the bale or the lug holding the bale. The hinge and closure work perfectly and it snaps shut solidly. It’s a truly lovely piece!
