Antique French Silver, Pearl and Enamelled Porcelain Cherub Pendant

£75.00
sold out

This antique French pendant is made from solid silver. It features an enamelled porcelain plaque set in the centre which depicts a cherub, holding a dove, with roses at his feet. The outside edge is set with split pearls, as are the flower and leaves at the top. There’s a bale ring for hanging from a chain. There are no marks but it acid tests as silver.

The total length is 4.6cm including the bale ring and it’s 2.9cm across the widest point. Weighs 9.7 grams.

Condition: Good antique condition but does have some wear and damage. There are 3 missing seed pearls on the leaves at the top which could easily be replaced. The porcelain plaque has 3 little chips around the edge from the prongs holding it in place - these don’t affect the integrity of the plaque and are only really noticeable on close inspection (I think they happened when the plaque was removed and reset…keep reading!). On the back there’s evidence of it once having brooch fittings which have been removed and the bar holding the bale has been added to replace them (it would have been during this that the plaque was removed and the chips happened - these things do not like being reset, even by an experienced jeweller!). Anyway, these are old alterations, probably done over 100 years ago and professionally.
