Antique French Silver Chainmail Purse Pendant
This antique coin purse pendant is made from solid silver. The body of the purse is constructed from chainmail, with a little silver balls hanging at the bottom and a beautiful floral decorated clip frame at the top. There’s a loop on one side so it could be worn on a chain or chatelaine. Inside, it has a second little clipped section, which is an unusual feature on one of these purses. The frame is stamped “Depose” (meaning it was made in France), there’s a faint hallmark stamp on the bale ring but it’s tricky to make out, however it acid tests as silver.
The total length is 9.0cm and it’s 5.7cm across the widest point. Weighs 48 grams.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. This is by far the best condition I’ve seen a chainmail sovereign purse in! They often have holes in the mail or some of the little balls at the bottom are missing, but his one is perfect with no damage that I can spot. Both clip fastenings work well and snap shut nicely and overall, it’s just a lovely piece!
