Victorian Large Anglo-Indian Silver Locket with Hindu God, Peacocks, Tiger

£175.00
sold out

This antique locket is made from solid silver. It’s Anglo-Indian in origin, depicting a Hindu god or goddess on the front, holding a cobra snake, which I think may make her the goddess Manasa? The design is extremely intricate and the more you look, the more creatures you see - there’s peacocks, monkeys, and a tiger at the bottom! Inside, there’s room for 2 pictures behind the original removable frames and glass covers. Dates from c. 1890. As with many antique pieces, it’s unmarked but acid tests as high grade silver.

With the bale, the total length is 7.2cm (the main body of the locket alone is 5.2cm long) and it’s 4.2cm wide. Weighs 43 grams.

Condition: Very good antique condition. No damage or repairs. The hinge is good and it clicks shut perfectly. The frame on the left is in there very tightly and might need some careful jimmying to remove! The one on the right comes out fairly easily. Overall this piece is in excellent condition with just the usual light marks and tarnish to the silver which you’d expect on an antique piece.
