Antique Sterling Silver and Paste Locket with Jack Russell Miniature Portrait

£345.00
sold out

This antique locket is made from solid sterling silver and it’s by The Parisian Diamond Company, who produced high quality paste pieces from 1893 to 1908. It has a very solid, well made feel to it, with rose gold overlay around the front bezel, surrounded by a halo of sparkly white pastes. The bale at the top is held by a ribbon design mount, set with further pastes. There’s a hinged door at the back, which opens and closes securely. It has the original glass panels intact on both the front and the back. The front window contains a portrait miniature from the original owner, depicting a Jack Russell terrier. This has been beautifully painted in oils, and it has wonderful lifelike detail - look at the collar! The back panel of the locket currently just contains a piece of blue material so you could replace this with a photo of your own.

The pendant is marked 925 for sterling silver and has the Parisian Diamond Company maker’s mark on the edge of the rim, just below the bottom of the near window.

Measures 4.4cm long including the bale and 2.9cm wide. Weighs 12 grams.

Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. All the pastes are original, none have been reset. The tiny scratch visible on the front is on the glass, not the portrait, and it might be able to be polished off by someone with the know how! Overall, it just has the usual marks and tarnish to the silver which you'd expect on an antique item.
