Antique Hungarian 800 Silver and Garnet Wild Boar Brooch

£175.00
sold out

This antique brooch is made of 800 silver. It depicts a very fine wild boar, with wonderful realistic detail and he has a tiny cabochon garnet set in his eye. The back fastens with a c-clasp but it has an unusual little holder to tuck the end of the pin away. The underside of the hinge is signed with the maker’s initials M&S and the hook of the clasp has the Hungarian dog’s head hallmark stamp denoting 800 silver - unfortunately this was impossible to capture in a photo! The back has a very faintly engraved inscription which someone appears to have done themselves, it reads :”R.F.A. Jan 29 1881” and a few more marks which I can’t decipher.

Measures 4.4cm x 2.7cm. Weighs 17 grams.

Condition: Very good antique condition. No dinks, damage or repairs to the silver and the pin is original. Just has the usual light surface marks to the silver which you’d expect to find on an antique piece.
