1977 Vintage Sterling Silver Egyptian God Bes Face Pendant by British Museum

£95.00
sold out

This large vintage pendant is made from sterling silver. It was produced by the British Museum and it’s a replica of a piece of The Oxus Treasure; a gold costume fitting with embossed decoration showing the head of the Egyptian dwarf-god Bes, dating from the 5th-4th century BCE. Bes was worshipped in ancient Egypt as the god of music, merriment, a protector of households and in particular of mothers and children. The little marks and dents around the edge and on the face, are part of the design, replicating those on the ancient original! There’s a split ring at the top for hanging and it’s hallmarked on the back, with the sponsor’s mark of the British Museum, and the date letter for 1977.

Measures 5.2cm long including the bale, and 4.1cm wide. Weighs 15 grams.

Condition: Very good vintage condition. Just has the usual light surface marks and tarnish which you’d expect on a vintage item.
