Antique Silvered Bronze Athena & Her Owl Double-Sided Pendant by Armand Bargas

£175.00
sold out

Here I have an antique double sided pendant depicting Athena, the goddess of Wisdom, and her owl. It was designed by renowned French medallist Armand Bargas and bears his signature to the right of Athena. The detail is absolutely fantastic - on her plumed helmet there’s a tiny depiction of Nike, the goddess of victory, and her breastplate has Medusa at its centre. The owl on the back is equally lovely, sitting upon a laurel branch, tucked just behind Athena’s shield! The pendant appears to be made of silvered bronze and there’s a tiny filed patch on the side, at the bottom, where it has been acid tested in the past, but this is the only visible wear to the silvering. The large bale ring at the top is a slightly later addition and is made of sterling silver, with a worn British hallmark on the edge.

Measures 2.7cm wide and 4.0cm long with the bale. Weighs 10.1 grams.

Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. No wear to the silvering aside from the testing patch on the edge, mentioned above. Overall it just has the usual light marks which you’d expect on an antique item.
