Art Nouveau French Goddess Slide Mirror Locket Pendant
This antique French slide locket is made from silver and base metal. It features a goddess on the front, with flowing hair and leaves around the edge. The back has an empty cartouche in the centre, where initials could be engraved, with stylised trees around the outside. The front slides across to reveal a little bevelled mirror inside. I believe the goddess panel to be made from unmarked 800 silver and the rest of the locket to be either white base metal (nickel) or a very low grade silver. The entire design is classically art nouveau and it dates from c.1900.
The pendant, including the bale, is 3.7cm long x 2.9cm wide. Weighs 6.7 grams.
Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. The goddess panel sits atop the base with a slight gap, and there’s no stopper mechanism so she can move a little worn, though her hinge is fairly tight so she largely stays in place. The mirror is in very good condition with no foxing or cloudiness. Overall the piece just has the usual light marks and wear which you'd expect on an antique item.
