Antique Victorian Gold B&F and Enamel In Memory Of Mourning Locket
Here I have a Victorian locket made of 9ct gold on the back and front panels, and brass in the central structural part of the locket (the hinge, closure, edges and bale). It’s enamelled on the front with In Memory Of, and there’s a cross on the back. Inside, it has room for 2 photos with the original little removable frames. One glass panel is broken but is currently stuck in place - I think if you broke it further it would come out. The other panel is intact.
The main body of the locket measures 2.3cm long, 1.8cm wide and 0.7cm deep. With the bale ring, the total length is 3.1cm. Weighs 6.3 grams.
Condition: Good uncleaned antique condition. The gold and enamel are in good condition with just the usual light surface marks you’d expect. Originally the brass parts would have been gold plated but this has largely worn away so the brass is clearly visible. The hinge and closure work well and it snaps shut. As mentioned, inside one of the glasses is broken but currently stuck in place. The inner frames and edges have oxidised over the years and look quite green, but this could be cleaned off with some metal polish.
