Antique Gold and Foiled Paste Engraved Mourning Locket
Here I have an antique mourning locket made from yellow gold. It’s in a four lobed design, with a foiled purple paste stone in the centre and each lobe is beautifully hand engraved with either a flower or an acanthus leaf. The back has a locket compartment which is bezel set with a thick piece of bevelled glass. It holds a small lock of hair upon a black material backing. This is set into the piece and cannot be removed yourself - it would require a jeweller to remove and then re-set it if you wanted to change out the hair. There’s a split ring at the top for hanging. The piece is unmarked and acid tests as 9-12ct gold.
Measures 1.7cm wide x 0.9cm deep x 2.7cm long with the bale. Weighs 3.7 grams.
Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. No damage or repairs, just has the usual light marks which you'd expect on an antique item.
