Antique Nickel Art Nouveau Floral Vesta Case Locket / Pendant

£35.00
sold out

Here I have a beautiful Victorian vesta case / pendant. It was originally designed to hold matches to keep them safe and dry (the ridged bit on the base was for striking them), but today you can pop any little keepsake inside. It features a lovely forget-me-not flower and acanthus leaf design over the front (on both sides of the case). It’s stamped “Albo Silver” on lip inside the lid; Albo silver was registered in 1886 and it’s composed of 15-19% nickel, 19-23% zinc, the balance being copper, with a cladding of silver. There’s also the maker’s initials N.C.R Co and “Reg” indicating they’d registered the design.

The main body of the vesta measures 5.1cm long, 3.8cm wide and 1.4cm deep. With the bale ring at the top, the total length is 6.2cm. Weighs 27 grams.

Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. The lid snaps shut fully and stays closed as it should; the inside has some surface oxidation which I haven’t attempted to clean. There are no dings to the outside, just a bit of wear to the striker at the bottom. Overall, it just has the usual marks and wear which you'd expect on an antique item.
