Antique French Reliquary Pendant on St Margaret Mary of Alacoque
Here I have an antique French reliquary pendant of St Margaret Mary of Alacoque. She was born on 22 July 1647 in Verosvres, and died on 17 October 1690 in Paray-le-Monial, and was a nun of the Order of Visitation, mystic and inspirer of the cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and recognised as holy by the Catholic Church. She was beatified in 1864 and canonised in 1920. The tiny relic is held in a white metal container, behind a glass panel with red fabric behind and a tiny handwritten label beneath. The back has a flaming heart decoration. There’s a small stamp on the side which is too indistinct to make out; it appears to be made of silver but I haven’t acid tested it so am selling as just white metal.
Measures 3.6cm long including the bale and 2.1cm wide. Weighs 4.4 grams.
Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. There’s a small dink in the heart on the back and the loop holding the bale has some age-related wear. Overall, it just has the usual light marks and wear which you’d expect on an antique item.
