1903 Sterling Silver Engraved Heart and Leaves Vesta Locket / Pendant
Here I have a beautiful Edwardian sterling silver vesta case / pendant. It was originally designed to be hung from a pocket watch chain, to hold matches to keep them safe and dry (the ridged bit on the base was for striking them!), but today you can pop any little keepsake inside. It’s hand engraved on the front with a heart and acanthus leaves (symbols of immortality). The back is covered in further swirly leaves. It’s fully hallmarked on the rim with the date letter for 1903, from the Birmingham Assay Office, with the maker’s initials W.H.
The main body of the pendant measures 3.7cm long, 2.9cm wide and 0.9cm deep. With the bale ring at the top, the total length is 4.6cm. Weighs 14.9 grams.
Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. The lid snaps shut perfectly and it holds shut. The main body of it is in excellent condition with few marks, there’s some rubbing wear to the ring holding the bale at the top but o overall, it just has the usual light marks and tarnish to the silver which you'd expect on an antique item.
