Antique Huge Cornicello Amulet Pendant with Silver Band and Hinged Bale.
Here I have a beautiful antique Italian coral cornicello pendant. The band in the middle tests as silver. The bale at the top is hinged and is yellow metal (not gold, probably brass or pinchbeck). It’s hard to capture in the photos but the coral is a lovely orange/salmon colour. Cornicelli are traditionally worn to protect against the evil eye and bad luck in general. Historically they were also believed to improve fertility and virility.
((Please note: the chain in the last photo is for display and is NOT included))
Measures 6.1cm long (not including the bale at the top), and 0.6cm at the widest point. Weighs 5 grams.
Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. The coral has some light surface marks from past use but no chips. The silver band is rather tarnished, it would clean off. Overall, it just has the usual light marks and tarnish which you’d expect on an antique item.
