Antique Solid Silver Locket Engraved with Letter E

£88.00
sold out

This antique locket is made from solid silver. It features scrolled repoussé design around the edge, with an hand engraved letter E in the centre, amongst acanthus leaves. The back hs the same border but with a linear decoration in the centre. It opens downwards, via a hinge along the bottom edge, and the inside has space for 2 photos between little wires which hold them in place. The door clicks into place at the top when you close it and it has a good sized bale for hanging. It’s stamped for silver on the ring holding the bale, it’s indistinct but is either 800 or 900 grade (I think 900 is more likely due to the colour of the silver). Dates from c.1920.

The main body of the locket measures 3.4cm long, 3.2cm wide and 0.5cm deep. With the bale ring at the top, the total length is 4.5cm. Weighs 13.5 grams.

Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. No dinks or damage. It closes with a click, but please note, that due to the design there is a slight gap between the two halves of the locket so it will not be watertight. Overall, it just has the usual marks and wear which you'd expect on an antique item.
