Antique Silver Plated Angel's Heads & Poppy Aide Memoire / Notebook
This antique aide memoire notebook is made from silver plated brass and it dates from around 1900. It depicts a version of Joshua Reynolds portrait “A Child’s Portrait in Different Views: Angel’s Heads” on the front. Above this is a swirling poppy head and leaf design which is also repeated on the reverse around an empty cartouche where initials could be engraved. It still has the original propelling pencil which slots into the side and you remove this to open the notebook. The pencil currently lacks lead, but it appears to work properly, with the lead holder propelling outwards when you twist the round finial at the top of the pencil. Inside, the original notebook is also still present, a few front pages have been torn out but most of it is still there. The gilding around the edge is worn on one side but still quite shiny on the side protected by the pencil.
Measures 7.1cm in length (not including the hanging ring at the top) and 4.6cm across the widest point.
Condition: Very good antique condition. The silver plating has worn so the brass shows through beneath and there are a couple of very small dinks to the cartouche on the back, but otherwise it’s in very nice condition.
