Antique Silver Plated Owl Aide Memoire / Notebook for Chatelaine

£165.00
sold out

This antique aide memoire/notebook is made from silver plated brass. It depicts an owl with wings outstretched, on a pine tree branch (look at those pine cones!), and owl has its original little amber glass eyes. Above is a swirling poppy head and leaf design which is also repeated on the reverse around an empty cartouche where initials could be engraved. The lid works on a spring, so when you remove the little pencil to the side, it pops open. The pencil is original and it still contains some lead! You extend and retract the lead by twisting the little sphere at the top. Inside, the original gold-edged notepad is also still present with just a few of the top pages missing. The front page has “Dear Glad, love George” written upon it, the rest of the pages are blank.

Measures 7.0cm in length (not including the hanging ring at the top) and 4.6cm across the widest point.

Condition: Very good antique condition. Just has the usual light marks and tarnish which you’d expect on an antique item and a very small amount of rubbing to the silver plate on the edge of the owl’s wing and the top of the pencil.
