Victorian Shell Cameo Brooch in Gilt Metal Frame - Mars and Bellona?
Here I have an antique brooch, featuring a carved shell cameo depicting a pair of classical figures - possibly Mars and Bellona? It’s held within a gilt metal frame with a rope-twist border and the back has a c-clasp and tiny loop at the bottom for attaching a safety chain. The metal is gilded white metal, it’s definitely not silver though, but probably nickel or similar. Dates from the late Victorian period of around 1890.
Measures 4.9cm x 4.0cm. It weighs 17.6 grams.
Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. No chips, cracks or damage to the cameo. The frame is also in lovely condition with minimal wear to the gilding and the pin is all original and in good working order.
