Vintage Gilded Sterling Silver Rams Head Ancient Greek Style Hoop Earrings

£35.00
sold out

This vintage pair of hoop earrings are made from sterling silver which has been gold plated. The Ram’s Head was often used in ancient Greek and Egyptian jewellery and these earrings are based on that style. They’re stamped somewhat poorly but I think they say SILV, the date appears to be 1993, and the maker’ initials IBM or BM. I believe they were probably made to be sold by the British Museum. The backs are not silver, just base metal, but could easily be replaced.

They measure 2.0cm wide across the hoop and 2.6cm high. Together they weigh 8 grams.

Condition: Very good vintage condition. One earrings has 2 small patches of gilding loss, I think possibly from previously being acid tested, but it’s only noticeable on very close inspection. Otherwise, they just have the usual light marks and tarnish which you’d expect on a vintage item.
