Antique Large Pink Coral & Silver Il Gobbo (The Hunchback) Good Luck Pendant
This antique pendant is made from carved coral, with sterling silver fittings. It depicts il Gobbo (the Hunchback), who derives from an ancient Italian spirit believed to bring abundance and good luck. He was a popular good luck charm in Italy during the 19th and early 20th century and I’ve come across a few smaller versions, usually in Mother of Pearl, but this one is much, much bigger! He’s quite crudely carved but that’s part of his charm. He came to me with the wire wrapped bale loop (which tests as silver) and I added a chunky sterling jump ring. The coral is a pale salmon colour.
The total length, with bale is 6.6cm. The little man himself is 4.7cm x 2.3cm x 1.3cm. Weighs 18 grams.
Please note - the chain in the last photo is for display only and is not included!
Condition: Very good antique condition. Just has the usual very light marks which you’d expect on a vintage item.
