Antique 1909 Sterling Silver Engraved Acanthus Leaf Vesta Locket / Pendant
This antique vesta case is made from sterling silver. It was originally designed to be hung from a gentleman’s pocket watch chain, to hold matches to keep them safe and dry (the ridged bit on the base was for striking them), but today you can pop any little keepsake inside. It’s hand engraved all over the outside with an acanthus leaf design and some initials in one corner (ERH?). It’s hallmarked on the rim of the lid, from the Birmingham Assay Office, with the date letter for 1909.
The main body of the vesta measures 3.7cm long, 2.9cm wide and 0.9cm deep. Weighs 16.9 grams.
Condition: Good uncleaned antique condition. The lid snaps shut fully and stays closed as it should. It does have some minor dinks on both sides and the edges, commensurate with its age but nothing dreadful. Overall, it just has the usual marks and tarnish to the silver which you'd expect on an antique item.
