Georgian Silver, Bristol Blue Glass & White Paste Giardinetti Brooch
Here I have a Georgian silver giardinetti brooch. It features a beautiful piece of Bristol blue glass, with a floral spray applied on top which is set with minute white paste stones. Around the edge is a scrolled foliate border, set with further paste stones. Turn it over and there's a wonderful raised starburst type design on the back (the brooch butt!) and it fastens with a c-clasp and pin. A safety chain has been added at a later date.
As with many antique pieces, it's unmarked but tests as solid silver.
Measures 3.1cm by 2.5cm. It weighs 7.8 grams.
Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. No missing stones and the blue glass is in great order. Some paste stones have surface rubbing and others have dulled/yellowed somewhat, but it's all commensurate with the age of the piece. The blue glass is in lovely condition (any spots in the pics are reflections/dust). Overall, it just has the usual light marks and wear which you'd expect on an antique item. NB - The first photos are taken in direct sunlight and the last three in shade.
