Antique Carved Orange Agate Whistle with Unengraved Seal Base
This antique whistle is made from solid carved agate gemstone. It’s freestanding and I believe it was also meant to be a letter seal, though the base has never been engraved. The agate has a lovely rich tone, with colours ranging fro, bright tangerine orange to caramel and almost white within some of the bands. It works extremely well as a whistle too! Very loud and very shrill. Dates from c. 1890. All photos are taken outside in natural light - the first 6 are in bright sunlight, the last 4 are in shade.
Measures 5.0cm long and the base is 1.8cm wide. Weighs 13.7 grams.
Condition: Very good antique condition. No chips, cracks or damage. Just the usual very light marks which you’d expect on an antique item..
