Antique Gold & Carnelian Armorial Wax Seal Signet Ring - Hand with Sword - Size L.5 / 6
This amazing antique yellow gold ring is bezel set with a large carnelian wax seal intaglio carved with an armorial coat of arms. It depicts a shield containing 3 horizontal daggers, pointing to the left, and above an arm holding another dagger. The seal is set within a sizeable amount of gold to make an impressive signet. The gold has quite a rosey tone, not the harsh yellow of modern 9ct. It’s been stamped 9ct inside the band but this stamping looks quite fresh, so I’ve acid tested it and it’s between 9 and 12ct.
The ring measures as a UK size M, but due to the width it fits slightly smaller, so more of an L 1/2 or US 6 approx. The visible part of the stone measures 1.8cm by 1.5cm. The ring weighs 14 grams.
Condition - Very good antique condition. The stone is in very good order with just some minor surface wear visible under magnification. The gold in this is substantial so it just shows some minor marks from past use, as you’d expect on a vintage piece.
