Victorian 1862 9ct Gold Ring with Enamel Spaniel Dog Portrait - O / 7.25

£495.00

This antique ring is made from fully hallmarked 9ct gold. It’s set with a beautiful portrait of a spaniel dog which has been hand-enamelled on what appears to be a silver background. The band has lovely crisp hallmarks, from the Birmingham assay office, with the date letter for 1862 and the maker’s initials SH, for Samuel Haines. I believe the portrait is even older than the ring, originally a stick pin judging by the back, and the owner decided to commission Haines to turn it into a more wearable ring.

It’s tricky to measure due to the length of the portrait, but it fits as about a size O or US 7.25. The front of the ring measures 17mm north to south and 11mm east too west. It weighs 3.1 grams.

Condition - Very good antique condition. No damage to the portrait. The band is also very good with no rubbing. Just has the usual light marks and wear to the gold which you’d expect on an antique piece.
